Day 1: Arrive Delhi

Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to hotel. Check in at the Hotel and rest of     the day at leisure. Delhi, the capital and the third largest city of India, is a fusion of ancient and modern. Standing at the western end of the Gangetic Plain, it is a vibrant city rich in culture, architecture, beautiful gardens and human diversity. Old Delhi was the capital of Muslim India from the 12th to the 19th centuries, while New Delhi was created by the British Raj and replaced Calcutta as the capital in 1931. It is India’s main international gateway, and the travel hub of Northern India

Day 2: Delhi

Qutab Minar: Qutab Minar is a soaring, 73 m-high tower of victory, built in 1193 by Qutab-ud-din Aibak immediately after the defeat of Delhi ‘s last Hindu kingdom. This 234 feet high tower, gracefully hand-carved for its entire height, has five distinct storeys, each marked by a projecting balcony and tapers from a 15 m diameter at the base to just 2.5 m at the top.

Humayun Tomb: It was built in 1565 A.D.. nine years after the death of Humayun, by his senior widow Bega Begam. Inside the walled enclosure the most notable feature are the garden squares  (chaharbagh) with pathways water channels, centrally located well proportional mausoleum topped by double dome.

India Gate: At the centre of New Delhi stands the 42 m high India Gate, an “Arc-de-Triomphe” like archway, commemorates the 70,000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives during the World War I

After a rest of couple of hours continue sight seeing of Old Delhi

Afternoon visit of Old Delhi to see Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk, Red Fort (from outside) the Raj Ghat.

Jama Masjid: This great mosque of Old Delhi is the largest in India , with a courtyard capable of holding 25,000 devotees. The highly decorative mosque has three great gates, four towers and two 40 m-high minarets constructed of strips of red sandstone and white marble.

Chandni Chowk: Chandni Chowk was built by Shah Jahan’s favourite daughter- Jahanara Begum in 1650 as a compliment to the imperial habitat – the Red Fort. Spend some time in Chandni Chowk to savour the ambience of a crowded oriental bazaar

Raj Ghat: Along with riverfront, the most prominent memorial among many is the Raj Ghat dedicated to the father of the Nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (popularly known as Mahatma Gandhi). The historic name refers to the ghat (stepped embankment) at the edge of the river.

Red Fort: The red sandstone walls of the massive Red Fort (Lal Qila) rise 33-m above the clamour of Old Delhi as a reminder of the magnificent power and pomp of the Mughal emperors, later in the evening witness the spectacular sound and light show at the Red Fort at 2030 hrs.

Day 3: Delhi – Mandawa (Surface -05 hrs)

Morning drive by surface to Mandawa and upon arrival check in at Hotel. The Shekhawati region is known for its beautifully painted havelis (houses) in its nearly twenty towns and villages, and Mandawa is one of them. Founded in the early 18th century, Mandawa is dominated by a rugged fort, now a splendid heritage hotel.

Besides the cenotaphs, wells, forts and temples the majority of frescoes are painted on the walls and gateways of the havelis. Shekhawati paintings mainly consist of red, green, yellow, brown, blue and mushroom colours

Day 4 : Mandawa- Bikaner (Surface -05 hrs)

Morning continue your drive to Bikaner and experience the living style in the villages of Rajasthan. On arrival transfer to the hotel.

Lying in the north of the desert state of Rajasthan, Bikaner city was founded in 1488 by Rao Bikaji. It is noted for its large majestic fort, and retains the medieval grandeur that permeates the city’s lifestyle. The colorful bazaars and the city’s bright and cheerful folk make Bikaner a fascinating experience

Day 5:  Bikaner – Jaisalmer (Surface -05 hrs)

Junagarh Fort: The 16th century fort was founded by Raja Rai Singh. It encompasses old palaces, temples and a mosque. It is distinguished by 37 pavilions, a line of balconies and aerial windows of varying designs. The museum inside the fort is dedicated to royal costumes, textiles and accessories, and also reveals changing cultural earas in its display of family portraits of the former rulers

Afternoon

Camel research and breeding farm: The only one of its kind in Asia,  it extends over 2,000 acres of semi arid land. The camels are sold in the cattle fairs of Bikaner and Jaisalmer, where they are decorated in traditional finery, colorful and complementing the stark brown terrain of the desert environment

Afternoon drive to Jaisalmer. On arrival transfer to the hotel.

Founded in 1156, Jaisalmer could be straight out of the Arabian Nights. It is one of India’s most exotic and unusual towns, and probably the most perfect Rajput walled city of all. Deep in the Thar Desert, Jaisalmer retains a mediaeval appearance. Within its confines are many havelis and palaces, and a group of notable Jain Temples. The havelis, known for their explicit artworks and carvings, leap from the city’s history, when it was on the camel train routes between India and central Asia. Mechants became very wealthy and built elaborate, extravagant and exquisitely carved homes. Although ages have passed by, the monuments of Jaisalmer have withstood the buffeting winds and heat of the desert environment

Day 6 : Jaisalmer

Morning visit to Jaisalmer Fort, which was built by Rawal Jaisal in 1156. It sits atop Trikuta Hill, commanding views across the desert landscape in all directions. Known as Sonar Quila or the Golden Fort, it seems to rise from the sand, reflecting the desert’s hues in its golden colouring. The fort is in itself a whole township that consists of a palace complex, temples, the havelis of rich merchants and the residential complexes.

Not far from the city are the towering sand dunes at Sam, where sunset is a spectacular event, particularly on a camel safari. Camels were the transportation when Jaiselmere was built and riding to and through the dunes reveals superb vistas and a real appreciation of the remote and desolate nature of a desert

Day 7 : Jaisalmer- Jodhpur (Surface -05 hrs)

Rao Jodha, the chief of the Rajput clan called the Rathores, founded the Bustling desert city of Jodhpur in 1459. It became the centre of the Rathore Kingdom known as Marwar, and lies in the heart of Rajasthan and on the edge of the Thar Desert. The massive fort dominates the city, topping a rocky hill that rises in its centre. The old city is surrounded by a 10 Km wall, from which eight gates give entry and exit.

Mehrangarh Fort, Perched on a 150 m high hill fort was founded in 1459. The display of Canon is one of the rarest in India. Battle scars of canon ball hit by attacking armies of Jaipur can still be seen on the second gate. Within the fort are some magnificent palaces with meticulously carved panels, latticed windows or “Jarokhas” with evocative names. The chambers of Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, the Sileh Khana and the Daulat Khana are noteworthy for the splendor and glamour of a bygone era

Day 8 :  Jodhpur- Udaipur (Surface -05 hrs)

Check out from the hotel and drive by surface to Udaipur en route visit of Ranakpur.

The ambience of Ranakpur is mainly highlighted by the location and the almost divine architecture; beautifully sculptured Jain Temples mark the glory of this renowned place. Built in the 15th century these temples are situated in the lovely Aravali valley, the town is named after Rana Khumba the legendary warrior king of Udaipur. The Ranakpur Jain temples have grand structure and beautiful sculptures. There are 1444 pillars in the main temple and no two of them are similar

Udaipur, the ‘City of Dreams’, is interspersed with shimmering lakes, marble palaces and fountains and is often referred to as the most romantic city in India. It was built in traditional Rajput style in 1559 A.D. by Maharana Udai Singh and was originally the capital of the State of Mewar. It’s beautiful lake setting; graceful architecture, bustling bazaars and historical past make Udaipur rather special.

Day 9 : Udaipur

Morning visit of City Palace & Museum, Jagdish Temple, Sahelion ki Bari.

The grand City Palace towers over the Pichola Lake. Maharana Uday Singh initiated in the construction of the palace but succeeding Maharanas added several palaces and structures to the complex retained a surprising uniformity to the design. The main part of the palace is now preserved as a museum displaying a large and diverse array of artifacts, the Crystal Gallery having breath-taking collection of crystals.

JagdishTemple -The exterior and the plinth are covered with base relief of alligators; elephants, horsemen and celestial musicians rise in tiers. Chanting, bells and music can be heard throughout the day.

Sahelion Ki Bari – was built in the 18th century by Maharana Sangram Singh. The delightful gardens appear discreet and in impeccable taste. The foundation of the Sahelion ki Bari functions solely by water pressure and no pumps are used.

Evening Lake Pichola and Jag Mandir

Evening boat ride in the Lake Pichola on a common boat and visit Jag Mandir. Lake Pichola derives its name from Pichola Village was submerged and Maharana Udai Singh enlarged the lake after he founded the city .Jag Mandir is the other island palace in Lake Pichola, which was constructed by Maharana Karan Singh. The island has some striking carving including a row of elephants that looks as though they are guarding the island. The exquisitely carved chhatri in grey and blue stone is another example

Day 10 :  Udaipur – Pushkar (Surface -05 hrs)

On the edge of the desert is the tiny and tranquil town of Pushkar, set on the shore of picturesque Pushkar Lake. It is a very important pilgrimage centre for the Hindus. Every year thousands of sadhus and devotees are drawn to the lake around the full moon of Kartik Purnima in October-November. This is when the Pushkar Camel Fair is held. It is the largest in India and unique in is format, combining a major religious festival with a commercial market

Day 11 :  Pushkar- Jaipur  (Surface -03 hrs)

Jaipur is the state capital of Rajasthan and owes its name, planning and foundation to the Maharaja Jai Singh II. In 1727, when he decided to move from his hillside fortress at Amber to the plains, and thus Jaipur was conceived. It is also know as the “Pink City”, derived from the pink painted sandstone from which the buildings in the old walled city are constructed. This planned city presents great architectural elegance and beauty, historic and magnificent Palaces, Temples, Gardens, museums, etc.

Day 12 : Jaipur

Morning, Sightseeing of Amber Fort with elephant ride. Seven miles outside the city in the rugged hills that surround Jaipur is the magnificent Amber Fort. An elephant will take you up to the fort through its huge gateways and pillared pavilions. This Rajput Fortress/Palace was constructed from 1592 by Raja Man Singh II, and is a superb example of Rajput architecture. Within the Fort their lies the famous Jai Mandir renowned for its architectural designs using mirrors of varied shapes and sizes peculiarly, known as the Sheesh Mahal, meaning the Palace of the Mirrors.

Afternoon, Jaipur City Sightseeing. A city tour takes you through the bazaars to the Maharaja’s City Palace, the former Royal residence, part of it converted into a museum. A small portion is still used by the Royal family of Jaipur. Built in the style of a fortified campus, the palace covers almost one-seventh in area of the city. One of the major attractions in the museum is the portion known as Armory Museum housing an impressive array of weaponry-pistols, blunderbusses, flintlocks, swords, rifles and daggers. One of the palaces is the Hawa Mahal, Palace of the Winds, built in 1799. The five-story building looks out over the main street and were originally for the ladies of the royal household to watch life and processions of the city.

Later visit the Jantar Mantar, which has the largest stone and marble crafted observatory in the world. Built by Jai Singh, it is still equipped with the ancient instruments including a very accurate 90- foot sundial, in 1728 and the observatory has 17 large instruments, many of them still in working condition.

Day 13 : Jaipur- Ranthambhore (Surface -03 Hours)

The Ranthambore National Park encompasses nearly 400 sq km of dry deciduous forest in southwestern Rajasthan. The Park derives its name from the fortress of Ranthambore (built 944 AD), which sits on a rocky outcrop in the forest. The forests around the Ranthambore Fort were once, the private hunting grounds of the Maharajas of Jaipur.  In 1957 Ranthambore was declared a wildlife sanctuary and in 1974 it came under the protective umbrella of Rajasthan’s first project Tiger reserve and in 1981 it became a National Park. Today it protects the finest habitats in the world and also has a remarkable rich and diverse flora and fauna.

Afternoon visit the Ranthambore National Park –The Park’s mammal list contains Tiger, Sambar, Cheetal, Nilgai, Wild boar, Chinkara, Langoor and Leopard, Sloth bear, Hyena and Jackal. There are at least a dozen species of reptiles and amphibians (Python and snakes, fresh water Crocodiles, Monitor Lizard, Tortoises), Walking is prohibited inside the Park.

Day 15 : Ranthambhore – Agra (Surface -04 hrs)

Morning drive by surface to Agra En route visit of Fatehpur Sikri.Located 40 Km from Agra, the deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri was built by Emperor Akbar in 1569, in honour of the great Saint Sheikh Salim Chisti who blessed Akbar and prophesized the birth of three sons to the heirless Emperor. Akbar used Fatehpur Sikri as his capital and the city was fully occupied for 14 years but slowly became deserted and ruined after Akbar left the city. Scarcity of water was the prime factor for the abandonment of this beautiful city. Visit the remarkably well preserved, graceful buildings within the ‘Ghost City’ including the Jama Masjid, tomb of Salim Chisti, Panch Mahal Palace and other palaces that speak of the grandeur and splendor of the Mughal empire at the height of its power

Agra Fort Built principally as military establishments by Akbar in 1565, the red sandstone Agra fort was partially converted into a palace during Shah Jahan’s time. Though Akbar built the original structure, his grandsons made many more additions. This powerful fortress encompasses the imperial city of the Mughal rulers within its 2.5-kilometre-long enclosure walls.

Itimad-Ud-Daulah This tomb was built by Empress Nur Jahan, daughter-in-law of Emperor Akbar, in memory of her father Ghias-Ud-Din Beg, grandfather of Mumtaz Mahal, between 1622-28 AD. A graceful building much smaller than the Taj Mahal is also the first example in Mughal architecture of a building faced entirely in marble

Day 16 : Agra – Delhi (Surface -05 hrs)

Sunrise visit of Taj Mahal built by Shah Jahan between 1631 to 1653 in memory of his queen Mumtaz Mahal to enshrine her mortal remains. This architectural marvel is a perfectly proportioned masterpiece fashioned from white marble that stands testimony to the skill of 20,000 craftsmen brought together from Persia, Turkey, France and Italy, laboured day and night who took 17 years to complete this ‘Love Poem in Marble’. (Friday closed).
